Recurring charges before a new purchase
Subscription cost is recurring cash committed before a new purchase is considered. The count field is a reminder to audit individual renewals; it does not divide the total or change the formula. The unused percentage is deliberately separate because cancelling one service changes the total, whereas a vague feeling of underuse does not.
Putting monthly and annual renewals on one calendar
Annual cost = monthly total × 12 + annual-only total. Unused monthly cost = monthly total × unused percentage ÷ 100 × 12. Annual-only services are not included in the unused calculation because the form cannot know which one is unused; add their price to monthly total only if you want that scenario tested.
The annual cost behind seven services
Seven services charging $86.50 each month cost $1,038 in twelve months. Add a $240 annual password manager or membership and the cash total becomes $1,278. Twenty-five percent of $1,038 is $259.50. That is equivalent to cancelling a $21.63 monthly service, not to receiving a 25% discount on every renewal.
Using a renewal audit
Use this before a card renewal month, when setting a discretionary-spending cap, or when comparing a bundle with separate services. List actual statement charges, including tax where it is charged, rather than advertised monthly prices. Running one case with only indispensable services reveals the minimum recurring commitment.
Charges that do not fit this total
Price increases, sales tax, foreign exchange, family-plan sharing, gift credits, trial periods, cancellation fees, and usage value are outside the arithmetic. An annual plan can be cheaper per month yet waste more cash if it is abandoned after two months.
Double-counting and percentage mistakes
Do not enter a yearly charge in both fields. A $120 annual plan belongs in annual-only subscriptions, not as $120 monthly. The unused share is a percentage such as 25, not 0.25, and it should reflect charges rather than the number of app icons.
